Wimmer Rehabilitation Center at
St. Francis Memorial Hospital
West Point, Nebraska
Kucirek Engineering was hired as the mechanical and electrical design consultant for St. Francis Memorial Hospital's Wimmer Rehabilitation Center in West Point, Nebraska. The center is designed for cardiac rehabilitation patients during their recovery. The 18,000 square foot addition included a fitness center, rehabilitation pool, physical therapy room and several exam rooms along with space for future renovations.
The HVAC system was designed to provide heating and cooling through a single-duct variable air volume (VAV) system. Variable air volume terminal boxes were systematically located throughout the building addition to provide precise temperature control to individual zones. The air-handling unit and return fan was located in second floor mechanical room and ductwork to each VAV box. The refrigerant piping for the direct-expansion cooling system was routed from the air handling unit cooling coil up to the condensing unit on the roof. The heating media is hot water produced from high-efficiency gas-fired hot water boilers.
